Fauske Is located on the northern shorre of Skjærsad fjord in Nordland county. Several marble quarries are located in the municipality and the marble is exported all over the world.

The Nordland Line passes through Fauske on its way to Bodø. Travellers going further north usually leave the train in Fauske, to use the express buss service northwards.

The European rout E6 goes through the center of Fauske, after crossing the Saltfjekket mountains. It continues from Fauske to Narvik. The national road 80 departs from E6 in Fauske and continues to Bodø.
